Yesterday, Pope Francis was laid to rest in a solemn ceremony at the historic Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome. The funeral service attracted many mourners, including dignitaries such as princes and princesses, kings and queens, and presidents and prime ministers from various nations. The streets surrounding the basilica were overflowing with people, many holding candles and flowers, as they lined up to pay their final respects to the beloved pontiff. The atmosphere was charged with a profound reverence as crowds of faithful admirers came together to honour his legacy and contributions to the church and the world. Amid the throng of individuals and esteemed dignitaries gathered for the occasion, a poignant reminder stood out: the late Pope was laid to rest in a modest wooden casket. This choice, starkly contrasting with the opulence typically associated with high-ranking figures, emphasized his humble nature and profound simplicity. The simplicity of the casket, devoid of embellishments or ornate decorations, served as a powerful statement about his life and values, honouring the message of humility and service he championed throughout his tenure. 'Simplicity' - Life, at its core, is profoundly simple. Upon entering this world, we arrive with no possessions, and when we depart, we will undoubtedly take nothing with us. At the culmination of our earthly journey, the only things that will endure into eternity, shaping our legacy, are the acts of service we rendered to God and our fellow human beings. Embracing the essence of simplicity invites us to lead a life free from malice and deceit.

Let us choose to cultivate a life steeped in love and compassion. By doing so, we can transform the world around us. When love guides our interactions, we pave the way for an existence marked by harmony rather than conflict. We can significantly diminish violence, whether it be wars or murders, as well as eradicate the destructive forces of selfishness, hatred, and pride. Through this commitment to simplicity and love, we can create a more peaceful and unified world.
