Are you the one who knows everyone’s business? Is your home a gathering spot for gossip? Gossiping is a sin rooted in hatred and envy, igniting arguments and tarnishing reputations. Social media amplifies this behaviour, allowing gossipers to showcase their negativity. Why do we focus on others’ lives instead of our own? Gossip is hypocritical; it destroys relationships and turns love into hatred. Those who gossip often feel unfulfilled in their own lives and resort to tearing others down. Ultimately, gossip is a sin that heaven despises.

Numbers 12 recounts the story of Miriam and Aaron, Moses’ siblings. Verse 3 depicts Moses as exceptionally humble. When Moses married a Cushite woman, Miriam and Aaron criticised him out of envy, gossiping about his relationship with God. The Lord heard their comments and punished them, with Miriam facing the harsher consequence as she may have instigated the gossip.

This story highlights that God disapproves of gossip and will address those who tarnish the reputation of His children. As believers, we should avoid gossip in any form and be cautious of engaging in negative conversations. Instead, we should focus on spreading the goodness of God and fostering fellowship in our homes.

Wishing you a joyful August and a wonderful week filled with the peace of God.
